SHILLONG, Jan 5: The Kharbuli Young Men’s Organisation (KYMO) on Monday concluded its golden jubilee celebrations marking 50 years of its formation, with Nongkrem MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit calling upon the youth to pursue honour, integrity and independent thinking rather than being driven by blind fame.
The closing programme was held in the presence of the Nongkrem as the chief guest along with Nongkrem MDC Kitborlang Syiem as the guest of honour, Rangbah Shnong Coasterwell Kharbuli, secretary Hercules Kharbuli and other invited dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Basaiawmoit congratulated KYMO for its five decades of service to society and urged young people to remain clear-minded and free in their thoughts.
The Nongkrem legislator cautioned them against being misled or controlled by external influences and stressed the importance of values and character in public life.
The event was also attended by office-bearers of the organisation led by president Bansumarlang Syiem and secretary Pynkhrawbok Kharbuli, members of women’s groups, local residents, youth and children from the village.
As part of the golden jubilee celebrations, KYMO felicitated its former office-bearers, students who have excelled academically and youths who have made notable achievements in sports.
Prizes were distributed to winners of various competitions, including essay writing and debate contests, organised since the commencement of the jubilee celebrations on July 31, 2025.
The closing ceremony featured cultural programmes, including a traditional costume and cultural show by local youth, musical performances, drum performances and other entertainment items, adding colour to the occasion.
