TURA, Jan 6: A joint operation by police in South West Garo Hills has led to the recovery of a huge cache of live anti-aircraft ammunitions on Tuesday.
Police informed that a joint police team from Salmanpara and Ampati Police Stations under South West Garo Hills District conducted the successful search operation based on reliable inputs. The operation was carried out in a bamboo grove near Santogre village, falling under the jurisdiction of Salmanpara Police Station.
South West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Vikash Varma informed that the joint team unearthed a cache of ammunition buried in a bamboo grove during the search operation. A total of 55 (fifty-five) suspected live anti-aircraft ammunition were recovered.
“The recovered ammunition was seized at the spot in the presence of independent witnesses, following all prescribed legal procedures. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the ammunition and to identify individuals involved in the illegal activity,” Verma said.
Meanwhile, an appeal has been made to the general public to come forward with any information related to miscreants involved in unlawful acts. Such information may be shared with the nearest Police Station. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential, and a suitable reward will be provided, a release added.
