DHAKA, Jan 6: Bangladesh police have said that student leader Sharif Osman Hadi was killed due to “political vengeance” orchestrated by the Awami League and its student wing, the Chhatra League.
Hadi, 32, had gained national attention during the 2024 mass protests that led to the fall of the Hasina government and had publicly criticized the party’s activities. Police submitted a chargesheet against 17 individuals, including prime suspect Faisal Karim Masud and Chhatra League leader Taizul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, who allegedly planned and facilitated the killing.
Twelve accused have been arrested, while five remain at large. Hadi was shot on December 12 during an election campaign and died on December 18 in Singapore, sparking violent protests and attacks on media and cultural groups in Dhaka. (PTI)
