Guwahati, Jan 7: As part of its public outreach campaign, “Raijor Podulit Raijor Congress Abhiyan”, initiated in the run-up to the Assembly elections, the Assam Congress has decided to engage with eminent persons, parties and organisations and seek their opinions on January 10 and 11.

Under the initiative of the Kamrup Metropolitan District Congress, interactions will be held in Guwahati with various party and social organisations, citizens’ bodies, student and youth groups, intellectuals and senior journalists.

The interactions will involve Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi, Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia and manifesto committee chairman Pradyut Bordoloi.

“Eminent journalists, writers and intellectuals from the media, along with major national organisations of Assam including the All-Assam Students’ Union (AASU), have already been contacted to participate in discussions on January 10 and 11,” a party spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Manifesto committee chairman Pradyut Bordoloi has requested nearly 100 eminent persons in Guwahati to offer suggestions for inclusion in the Congress manifesto.

Bordoloi also proposed visiting the residences or workplaces of those unable to attend the meetings and has requested them to submit their opinions in writing.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Bordoloi said the Congress manifesto would be a people’s manifesto this time. “The manifesto, to be prepared by incorporating opinions from all sections of the state’s population, will be presented before the people soon,” he informed.

Meanwhile, as part of the public outreach campaign, the party on Wednesday collected people’s opinions and suggestions from people from various parts of Lower Assam, including Nalbari and Rangia.

In Rangia, a delegation led by Bordoloi, interacted with local party and social organisations, prominent personalities and a section of senior journalists. Former MP Abdul Khaleque was also part of the delegation.

It may be mentioned that on January 6, representatives participating in the Raijor Podulit Raijor Congress Abhiyan under the leadership of Ripun Bora collected public opinion in Hojai district.
