Shillong, Jan 8: Meghalaya’s karate contingent returned home in glory after dominating the Kanninjuku National Karate Championship 2025 in Khandala, Maharashtra, where the state emerged as overall champions.
A 54-member squad representing the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) took part in the two-day tournament held at D.C. School from December 30 to 31. The team, guided by senior instructors Donboklang Lyngdoh, Greater E.M. Kharpuri, Arjun Sewa and Mingson Rymbai, produced a standout collective performance.
By the end of competition, Meghalaya stamped its authority across age groups, finishing with a rich haul of 58 gold, 49 silver and 26 bronze medals, the best tally among all participating states.Adding to the triumph, Esaranaki Kharjana and Daniel Dabiangbha Warji were declared Best Karateka in the girls’ and boys’ categories respectively, recognising them as the leading performers of the championship.
State athletes excelled across sub-junior, cadet, junior and senior divisions, sweeping podiums in kata, kumite and team events. Several competitors, including multi-medal winners across categories, powered Meghalaya to the top of the table.AMKA, in a statement, congratulated every athlete and official on their achievement and commended the effort, discipline and teamwork that delivered the historic result.
The association further expressed gratitude to the coaching team, parents and support staff, while urging the media to highlight what it described as “a proud moment for the state’s growing martial arts community.”
