Vadodara, Jan 10: Virat Kohli stands on the verge of yet another landmark in international cricket, needing just 25 runs to become only the third batter to breach the 28,000-run mark across formats.
The milestone places him alongside two giants of the game — Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara.
Kohli, currently sitting on 27,975 runs from 556 matches and 623 innings, could also move past Sangakkara’s tally of 28,016 to become the second-highest run-scorer in international cricket.
However, a knock of 42 or more in the series opener against New Zealand would see him leapfrog the Sri Lankan great.
The 35-year-old boasts an average of 52.58 and an extraordinary record that includes 84 centuries and 145 fifties across formats.
