SHILLONG, Jan 10: Meghalaya has secured one Gold and two Silver honours at the prestigious SKOCH Awards for innovation, community-driven development and sustainable tourism, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced on Saturday.
The Gold Award was conferred on the Mushroom Development Centre at Upper Shillong for its role as a Shiitake production and training centre. The project was recognised for promoting high-value mushroom cultivation, skill development and income generation among local farmers.
Meghalaya also received two Silver Awards. The Malai Community and Rural Development Block was honoured for its community-led development initiatives that have strengthened grassroots governance and improved service delivery.
Another Silver Award went to the Directorate of Tourism’s Nongwar Tourism Project for advancing sustainable, community-based tourism while preserving local culture and natural heritage.
The Chief Minister congratulated all departments, officials and community stakeholders involved, stating that the awards reflect Meghalaya’s focus on inclusive growth models that combine livelihood generation, environmental sustainability and cultural preservation.
