Goalgaon activist’s murder: One more suspect arrested

Tura, Jan 12: Continuing their pursuit of those involved in the murder of ACHIK member, Dilseng Sangma, West Garo Hills (WGH) police yesterday, Jan 11, affected another arrest, taking the total number detained to 4.

Following the incident on Jan 9 when ACHIk members who had gone to inspect and shut down an illegal stone quarry and were assaulted by a group of miscreants, the entire region had been on tenterhooks over a communal flare-up.

However swift action by the district police which resulted in three suspects being arrested and peace meetings being held at Tura, Phulbari and Rajabala, the situation was contained. However, the illegal quarry owner remains at large after he fled before the police arrived at his house.

District police sources stated that raids are being conducted and searches being undertaken to ensure all those responsible for the assault and subsequent murder, are brought to book.
