SHILLONG, Jan 13: The revised design for the proposed trumpet interchange near Barapani (Umiam) on the Shillong-Silchar high-speed corridor has ensured that no land—temporary or permanent—will be acquired from the Experimental Botanical Garden, addressing a key concern raised recently by Shillong MP Ricky A.J. Syngkon.
In an official letter dated December 29, 2025, to the General Manager of NHIDCL’s Project Management Unit in Shillong, the project consultant, Global Krishna JV, confirmed that the interchange geometry has been modified after reviewing land acquisition boundaries and environmental factors in the Barapani area.
The letter states that the revised trumpet interchange maintains a clear buffer from the Botanical Garden’s boundary—managed by the Botanical Survey of India—while fully complying with Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Indian Roads Congress standards.
