RTI activist held for attempting to extort Rs 5 crore from Andhra MP

MUMBAI, Jan 13: An RTI activist was apprehended from Mumbai for allegedly blackmailing an Andhra Pradesh MP and attempting to extort Rs 5 crore from him, police said on Tuesday.The accused, Rushant Jaykumar Wadke, was nabbed from south Mumbai in a joint operation by the Andhra Pradesh and Mumbai police, an official said.According to the police, Wadke, who claimed to be an RTI activist, allegedly targeted an MP from West Godavari district by threatening to share sensitive information he had obtained through Right to Information (RTI) applications with Central probe agencies.The MP started receiving threatening calls, and he sent his personal assistant to meet Wadke in the Medukur area for negotiation. But the accused allegedly robbed the PA at knifepoint, taking Rs 70,000 cash, police said.A case was registered against the accused at Medukur police station, and following a probe, Wadke was traced to Mumbai, the official said. Three killed as truck overturns on loading vehicle

RATLAM (MP), Jan 13: Three people were killed after a truck laden with tiles overturned on another vehicle in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district, police said on Tuesday.A truck loaded with tiles lost control, reversed, and overturned on a loading vehicle behind it.Three occupants of the loading vehicle died on the spot, the official said.The truck heading towards Ratlam lost control on the climb and hit the loading vehicle carrying empty egg crates, said a senior police officer .He said that the two vehicles were separated with the help of two cranes and a JCB machine, and the bodies were extricated after about two and a half hours of effort.The deceased have been identified as Riyaz (48), Zafar (52), both residents of Ratlam, and Abdul Hamid (50) from Jhabua, the official said, adding that a case has been registered. Tej Pratap Yadav turns up at feast hosted by Bihar Deputy CM

PATNA, Jan 13: Many eyebrows were raised on Tuesday when Tej Pratap Yadav, the estranged elder son of RJD president Lalu Prasad, turned up at a feast organised here by senior BJP leader and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha.Yadav, a former minister who has floated his own outfit Janshakti Janata Dal following expulsion from the RJD, received a warm welcome by Sinha.He had met the deputy CM a few days ago to extend invitation for a feast he will be hosting on Wednesday on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.Sinha hosted the feast on the eve of the festival, which was attended by a host of senior NDA leaders, including CM Nitish Kumar, fellow Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, JD(U) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha and minister and HAM chief Santosh Kumar Suman.When Yadav, who lost his seat in the recently held assembly polls, was asked by journalists whether he had any plans to join the NDA, he said: “We may have different political ideologies, but we share the same cultural ethos. As regards other things, you will get to know about it in due course”. (PTI)
