Another Hindu man killed amid rising violence in Bangladesh
DHAKA, Jan 13: Amid a surge in violence against minorities in Bangladesh, another Hindu man, 27-year-old auto-rickshaw driver Samir Das, was hacked and stabbed to death in Jagatpur village, Daganbhuiyan upazila, Feni district. His body was discovered in a crop field on Monday after he failed to return home Sunday night. Reports indicate that Samir was taken to a secluded location and brutally killed, possibly in an attempt to steal his autorickshaw, which remains missing. Daganbhuiyan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Muhammad Faizul Azim Noman confirmed that the body was sent for autopsy and that a special operation has been launched to identify and apprehend the perpetrators and recover the vehicle. This marks the ninth attack on Hindu communities in Bangladesh in 24 days, reflecting a troubling pattern of violence against minorities. India has expressed serious concern over the recurring attacks, calling for decisive action and stating it is closely monitoring the situation in the neighboring country. (IANS)
Four peace committee members shot dead in Pak
PESHAWAR, Jan 13: Four members of a local peace committee were shot dead by unknown assailants on Tuesday in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, officials reported. The attack occurred in Bannu district near Mazang Chowk, which borders North Waziristan. The gunmen ambushed the peace committee members, killing them on the spot. Police and security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the attackers. The victims’ bodies were moved to a nearby hospital for medico-legal procedures. The killings come amid a recent surge in terrorist attacks across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where militants frequently target police, security forces, and law enforcement personnel. Just a day earlier, a blast targeting a police vehicle killed at least six officers, including a senior official, and critically injured a passerby who later succumbed to his injuries. Road accident in Kazakhstan kills Indian student
ASTANA, Jan 13: An Indian student was killed and two others injured when a group of medical students were involved in a road accident in Kazakhstan, the Indian mission said on Tuesday. The accident occurred in Oskemen, when 11 Indian students from the Semey Medical University were on their way back from an excursion trip, the Indian embassy here said on X. Mili Mohan, 25, was killed in the accident, while Ashika Sheejamini Santhosh and Jaseena B were injured, the embassy said. Those injured are receiving medical treatment, and their condition is stable, it said. “The Embassy conveys its deepest condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased. The Embassy is in touch with the University, Hospital authorities and families,” it added. (PTI)
