SHILLONG, Jan 14: The Eastern West Khasi Hills District Magistrate has prohibited the transportation, storage, sale or distribution of fish illegally imported from Bangladesh without valid legal documents.
In a statement, the District Magistrate also banned the use of any vehicle, vessel or boat, as well as assisting, harbouring or facilitating individuals or groups involved in such illegal activities within the district.
According to the order, the action was taken in view of reports indicating that illegal transportation of migrants and fish from Bangladesh is taking place through various border routes, riverine channels, roads and market points within the state.
The directive noted that such illegal items may enter the district through multiple channels and could pose a serious threat to national security, public order, public health and economic interests, warranting immediate preventive measures.
Meanwhile, the District Magistrate warned that any person found violating the order would be prosecuted under relevant provisions of law.
