SHILLONG, Jan 15: The stalled Meghalaya-Assam interstate boundary talks are set to face further delays, with the prevailing political climate in neighbouring Assam slowing down the negotiation process.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday said the upcoming elections in Assam have made it difficult for the current government there to actively engage in discussions at this point.
“Assam elections are around the corner, so politically speaking, the current dispensation there is not in a position to engage right now, as they are obviously busy with the election aspect,” he said.
He added that the dialogue would resume once the elections conclude. “
“Once the elections are over, we will move forward again and continue the process,” the Chief Minister stated.
