Lachumiere robbery-assault case: Accused in police net

SHILLONG, Jan 16: Police have arrested a 43-year-old man in connection with a robbery and assault reported at Upper Lachumiere here earlier this week.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 2 pm on January 13, when the accused allegedly entered the residence of Devi Basumatary (42) with the intention to commit robbery. When the victim noticed the intruder inside her room and attempted to lock him in, he reportedly attacked her by striking her on the head with an iron rod and threatened to kill her.
Police said the accused fled the scene after snatching the victim’s sling bag containing a mobile phone and cash. Basumatary sustained injuries in the attack and was later taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Following the incident, police launched an investigation and, after collecting material evidence, identified the accused as Navin Sunar (43).
On Friday, at around 4.30 pm, a special team from Pasteur Beat House, led by In-charge, SI Arki Warlang, apprehended the accused from Boucher Road.
A case has been registered at Laitumkhrah Police Station vide C/No. 05(01)2026 under Sections 331(7), 304(2), 351(3) and 127(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
