SHILLONG, Jan 16: Meghalaya has been recognised as a “Leader” for its efforts in building a robust and vibrant startup ecosystem during the National Startup Day celebration held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on Friday.
During the programme, Meghalaya was also conferred a Certificate of Appreciation under the States’ Startup Ecosystem Ranking (5th Edition).
The event, organised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, marked 10 years of the Startup India Initiative and was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the chief guest.
It is pertinent to note that this recognition reflects Meghalaya’s sustained focus on promoting entrepreneurship, innovation and startup-led growth.
The States’ Startup Ecosystem Ranking, instituted by DPIIT, is a periodic capacity-building exercise aimed at assessing initiatives undertaken by states and union territories to create a conducive environment for startups and innovation. For the purpose of ranking, states and union territories are classified into Category A, with a population above one crore, and Category B, with a population below one crore.
In its fifth edition, the ranking evaluated states and union territories across six reform areas and 19 action points, covering key parameters such as policy support, institutional capacity, access to funding, incubation facilities, mentorship and market linkages.
The programme was also attended by Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, DPIIT Secretary Amardeep Singh Bhatia and Joint Secretary Sanjiv, along with several leading entrepreneurs and investors from Shark Tank India, including Aman Gupta of boAt, Ritesh Agarwal of OYO and Mohit Yadav of Minimalist.
