Recipients of Meghalaya Day awards finalised

SHILLONG, Jan 16: The Cabinet on Friday finalised the recipients of the prestigious Meghalaya Day Awards 2026.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma informed that the U Tirot Sing Award for Arts and Literature will be conferred on noted poet, writer and translator Dr Kynpham Sing Nongkynrih for his significant contribution to literature and cultural expression.
The Pa Togan N. Sangma Award for Social Services will be awarded to Rev. Fr. Benoy Joseph, who is widely acknowledged as the driving force behind the successful Muktidata Multipurpose Co-operative Society at Tikrikilla. His work has played a key role in promoting community development and economic empowerment.
The Cabinet also approved the name of Riiohlang Dhar for the U Kiang Nangbah Award for Sports and Games. Dhar recently secured a place on the FIFA Refereeing International List for 2026, a distinction that highlights her consistent performance and standing at the highest level of international football officiating.
The awards will be formally presented during the Meghalaya Day celebrations on January 21.
