Delhi continues to witness ‘severe’ air quality

NEW DELHI, Jan 19: Delhi on Monday recorded a maximum temperature of 26.7 degrees Celsius, 7.1 notches above the seasonal average, with partly-cloudy conditions throughout the day after dense fog enveloped most parts of the city in the early hours, according to the Met office.The national capital choked under a blanket of smog in the morning, with the average Air Quality Index (AQI) settling at 405 in the “severe” category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).Delhi’s air quality is likely to remain in the “severe” or “very poor” category for the next two days. The outlook for the six subsequent days also states that the air quality is likely to be in the “very poor” band, according to the Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS). The minimum temperature settled at 7.7 degrees Celsius, 0.1 notch above normal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. (PTI)

Minor ‘raped’ and murdered in Jharkhand

LATEHAR, Jan 19: An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by her neighbour in Jharkhand’s Latehar district.The minor’s body was found on a road in Chipadohar police station area in the morning, they said.“The father of the girl and locals informed police, following which a team rushed to the spot and recovered the body,” police said. An FIR was lodged based on her father’s statement, who blamed his 21-year-old neighbour for the crime.The accused has been arrested, and the body of the girl sent for postmortem examination.The accused allegedly held the girl captive in his house, raped her, and then strangled her to death.(PTI)

Four killed, two injured as pick-up vehicle collides with bus

NASHIK, Jan 19: Four people were killed, and two suffered injuries after a pick-up vehicle collided with a luxury bus in Maharashtra’s Nashik district in the wee hours of Monday.A pick-up vehicle coming from the opposite direction collided with the bus.The official said that the impact killed three people in the pick-up vehicle and a man who was travelling in the driver’s cabin of the bus.The official said that locals and police rushed the injured to a hospital. Elderly couple stabbed to death, son-in-law held

PALAKKAD (Kerala) Jan 19: An elderly couple was allegedly stabbed to death and their three-year-old grandson seriously injured by their son-in-law .The deceased have been identified as Nazir (78) and his wife Suhara (70), residents of Thottakara in Ottapalam, where the incident occurred, they added.Police said the injured child, Muhammad Ishan, is undergoing treatment.The accused, Muhammad Rafi of Ponnani-the couple’s son-in-law and the child’s father-fled the scene and hid in a nearby building, where he slit a vein on his wrist before being caught by the police and local residents.Nazir’s daughter Sulfi and her son Ishan had been living separately from Rafi for the past few months.Police said Rafi, who was desperate to take custody of the child, reached Nazir’s house.
