NEW DELHI, Jan 24: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Friday appointed ten observers for Meghalaya under its Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan (Organisation Creation Campaign), a nationwide initiative aimed at rebuilding the party’s organisational structure from the grassroots.
Under the campaign, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge appointed several hundred AICC observers to oversee the selection of new District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents across multiple states, including Meghalaya.
The committee comprises Bharat Singh Solanki, who concurrently serves as the AICC in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir, Ashok Tanwar, a senior Congress leader and former Member of Parliament, and eight other observers.
From Meghalaya, Szarita Laitphlang has been appointed as one of the observers for Uttar Pradesh under the campaign. Hailing from the hill state, she is currently serving as a secretary of the AICC and as general secretary of the Chhattisgarh unit of the Indian National Congress.
The other observers are Subhashini Yadav, Nadeem Javed, Sachin Naik, Biswaranjan Mohanty, Bellaiah Naik, Manish Yadav, Tilotama Loitongbam and Amir Hussain Khutheibam.
According to party sources, the team of observers will expedite the appointment of new DCC presidents to ensure transparency and inclusivity, work in direct coordination with Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) observers, address local grievances and foster unity as part of a broader strategy to rebuild the party’s organisational strength in the region.
The observers have been tasked with a “bottom-up” selection process to ensure neutral and hardworking leadership. Their roles include camping in assigned districts—often for up to three months—to assess organisational strength.
They will also engage with block-level office-bearers and local stakeholders to identify potential leaders and submit comprehensive reports to the AICC General Secretary (Organisation), followed by one-on-one discussions to finalise appointments.
