SHILLONG, Jan 24: The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) has constituted a new Academic Committee for a three-year term with the objective of strengthening academic planning, curriculum oversight and examination-related decision-making in the state.
The committee has been formed under Section 21(1) of the Meghalaya Board of School Education (Amendment) Act, 2006, according to an official notification issued from the MBoSE headquarters in Tura.
The Executive Chairman of MBoSE will chair the Academic Committee, while senior officials from the education sector, including the Directors of Higher and Technical Education, School Education and Literacy, and Educational Research and Training, have been included as members.
The committee also comprises academic experts and heads of institutions from across Meghalaya, with representation from North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), North East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE), government colleges, teacher education institutions and higher secondary schools located in Tura, Shillong, Jowai, Dalu and Nongpoh.
The Controller of Examinations, MBOSE Tura, is among the members, while the Chief Academic Officer of MBoSE has been appointed as the Member Secretary. As per the notification, all nominated members will hold office for a period of three years from the date of issuance.
The Board has also delegated specific academic powers and functions to the committee under Section 23(2)(XII) of the MBOSE Act, 1973, thereby strengthening its role in shaping academic policy, curriculum development, academic reforms, and examination-related matters under the MBOSE framework across the state.
