Tura, Jan 28: A poster, purportedly from ISIS – K, that was apparently posted on an electric post near the Tura Law College under Araimile OP in Tura once again threatened to escalate the tension in an already trite environment prevailing in the region.
The poster, which apparently was the only poster that was found through the region, threatened the indigenous community claiming action from the now almost defunct outfit that had caused global terror just a few years ago.
Immediately after the matter was raised with the district police, the poster was taken down and a suo moto case filed into the act at the outpost.
However social media went into frenetic mode especially in the backdrop of tensions following the killing of the ACHIK activist, Dilseng Sangma on Jan 9 in an altercation in the village of Goalgaon under Rajabala PS in WGH.
While the situation has remained tense since then, no major violence was reported from part of Garo Hills.
In a release this evening, WGH stated that it had taken cognizance of the matter and action would follow.
“We have taken cognizance of a poster found pasted on an electric pole near Law College, Araimile. At present, no other such posters have been noticed or reported from any other parts of the district. Preliminary assessment indicates that this may be a deliberate attempt by person (s) or group with vested interests to create anxiety and disturb the law and order situation in the district,” stated the release by the SP of WGH, Abraham T Sangma.
“The poster has been removed and will be sent for Forensic analysis. A case has been registered at Araimile Police Station and investigation has started. All out efforts are being made to identify and trace the persons responsible for pasting the poster and those who are circulating it to create panic and create communal disharmony. Accordingly, necessary actions will be taken against them as per relevant section (s) of law,” he added.
WGH police have advised everyone to not panic and be misled by such messages on social media or any other platforms which they said was being circulated with the intention of creating communal disharmony.

The District Police assured all concerned citizens and the general public that the law and order situation in the district was under control and necessary steps were being taken to maintain peace and harmony in the region.
