Guwahati, Jan 31, 2026: One of the most prestigious moot court competitions in the
country—the 38th Bar Council of India (BCI) National All India Inter-University Moot Court
Competition 2026—concluded successfully today at The Assam Royal Global University
(RGU) with a grand valedictory ceremony.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, Judge,
Supreme Court of India, as the Chief Guest, and Mr. Manan Kumar Mishra, Rajya Sabha MP
and Senior Advocate, Chairman, Bar Council of India, as the Guest of Honour. The event
also witnessed the presence of Dr. A. K. Pansari, Chancellor, Prof AK Buragohain VC RGU,
along with a galaxy of Supreme Court and High Court Judges, eminent legal luminaries,
academicians, and brilliant law students from across the nation, according to a Press release.
The 38th BCI National All India Inter-University Moot Court Competition 2026 was held for
the first time in North East India, hosted by RGU from January 29 to 31, 2026, bringing
together law students from universities across India. The competition was organised under
the aegis of the Bar Council of India and the Bar Council of India Trust–Pearl First, and
featured intense preliminary, quarterfinal, semifinal, and final rounds that reflected
exceptional advocacy skills and legal acumen.
The team of Law Centre–II, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi emerged as the Winner,
receiving a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, while the First Runner-Up team KIIT School of Law,
Bhubaneswar, Odisha was awarded Rs 1 lakh and the Second Runner-Up team NEF Law
College, Guwahati received Rs 50,000 cash award. The Best Speaker was Stuti
Gangupadhyay from KIIT School of Law, Bhubaneswar who was awarded Rs 10,000, the
Second Best Speaker was Navisha Bageja from Delhi University who received Rs 7,500, the
Best Memorial team was Madhusudan Law University, Cuttack which was awarded Rs
10,000, and the Second Best Memorial team from Sikkim Government Law College,
Gangtok received Rs 7,500.
Along with cash prizes, trophies were presented to all winners,
and certificates were awarded to all participating teams. Besides, Monthly Scholarships will
be provided for one year to top performers while students will also get publication
opportunity in the Indian Bar Review, the journal of the Bar Council of India.
Addressing the valedictory session, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, Judge, Supreme Court
of India, emphasised the importance of moot court competitions in shaping young legal
minds. He stated that such platforms not only hone advocacy, research, and articulation skills but also instil constitutional values, ethical responsibility, and professional discipline among aspiring lawyers. He encouraged students to remain committed to justice, integrity, and continuous learning in their legal journey.
Manan Kumar Mishra, Senior Advocate and Chairman, Bar Council of India, in his
address as Guest of Honour, highlighted the Bar Council of India’s commitment to
strengthening legal education in the country.
He lauded Royal Global University for successfully hosting the competition in the North East and stated that exposure to national- level platforms is crucial in preparing students for the challenges of the legal profession.
Prof. Bhuban Chandra Barooah, Dean, Royal School of Law & Administration (RSLA),
Royal Global University, stated that the moot court rounds were judged by an eminent panel comprising Judges, Senior Advocates of the Gauhati High Court, leading legal
practitioners, and renowned academicians from premier law institutions, ensuring the highest standards of evaluation and academic rigour.
