‘MY Bharat, MY Vote’ rallies mark National Voters’ Day in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Jan 30: National Voters’ Day was celebrated in Meghalaya on Friday with a ‘Walk for Democracy’ and a cycle rally under the theme ‘MY Bharat, MY Vote’.
According to a statement here, the event, which was held at the JN Basketball Court in Shillong, was organised by MY Bharat Meghalaya in collaboration with the Chief Electoral Office (CEO), the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, the district administration and the Sports Authority of India.
The programme aimed to raise awareness about voter registration and the importance of youth participation in the electoral process.
Chief Electoral Officer Dr. BDR Tiwari, along with Joint CEO YR Mawlong, Director of Sports DD Shira and other senior officials attended the event.
During the programme, first-time voters were also felicitated with EPIC cards and commemorative apparel.
Similar Padyatras were organised at Muallian village in East Jaintia Hills and Pasadwar village in West Jaintia Hills under the MY Bharat Jowai Kendra.
The day also coincided with Martyrs’ Day as tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi at events held in Umsaw, Muallian and Pasadwar villages, where participants remembered his principles of peace and non-violence.
