Two arrested in phone theft case at city store

SHILLONG, Jan 30: Police have arrested two persons in connection with the theft of a high-end mobile phone from a commercial establishment in Shillong, days after CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media.
According to police, an FIR was received on January 29, 2026, stating that on January 22, 2022, two unidentified persons had entered the store M/s AK Enterprises at Glory’s Plaza and stolen a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra mobile phone.
The theft was captured on video, which later circulated widely online.
Following the complaint, a team from Sadar Police Station, led by Sub-Inspector Arkwis Iawphniaw, traced the suspects and arrested them on Wednesday from Mukhla in West Jaintia Hills district.
The arrested persons have been identified as Bracely Suna and Underson Sumer.
Police said the investigation is ongoing to ascertain whether the two are involved in other burglary and snatching cases in different parts of the state.
