Tura, Feb 3: Marking another stellar finish another race this year, Tura’s Aneesh Sangma along with his navigator, Dinky Verghese, secured the first runner up position in the just concluded Blueband Rally of the Highlands that was held at Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

The current podium finish is the third such achievement for the Tura lad this year and has put Garo Hills motorsports on the national map.

He won in the Gypsy category in the ongoing Indian National Rally Championship held between Jan 30 -Feb 1 at the Natrax Track, the largest car testing track in Asia. The rally covered a distance of 150 kms over two days with Aneesh missing out on a first place finish by just 5 seconds due to a gear box failure.

Sangma dedicated his victory to his late brother and fellow petrol head Kamlesh Das. He further wished to thank the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma for his continued support for his efforts in the sport.

“Representing Meghalaya on a national stage is a responsibility I take seriously and it has been made possible by the leadership in our state. I want to express my sincerest gratitude to our CM. His trust in me and his tireless efforts to promote motorsports have transformed the landscape for athletes in Meghalaya,” said Aneesh.

Aneesh further expressed his gratitude for Mahendraganj MLA, Sanjay Sangma, who is also a member of the motorsports fraternity in Garo Hills, for his support to him and the sport itself.

The championship now moves to its final stretch which will also be the deciding factor to the eventual winners.

“The stakes are high, the terrain will be tough, but my resolve is stronger than ever. I am going into this final round with the goal of bringing the championship trophy home to Meghalaya—for my state, for my supporters and most importantly, for Kamlesh Bhai,” said an emotionally charged Aneesh.

The final race of the 2025 season will be held in Maharashtra to crown the overall champion. Aneesh sits extremely close to creating history by being the first champion from the Garo Hills region, just 5 points behind overall leader Sanjay Agarwal. He is currently at 104 points.
