SHILLONG, Feb 7: The Acting Chief of Hima Sohra, Mynjurlang Jyrwa, has denied allegations of being power-hungry, stating his appointment was made solely to ensure the Hima’s smooth functioning during the current crisis.
Responding to threats from the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC)—which alleged his appointment was due to ties with the VPP-led KHADC—Jyrwa dismissed the claims as baseless.
He clarified that he has no personal ambition and that the Myntris of Hima Sohra collectively agreed to his temporary appointment. This decision followed the KHADC’s refusal to grant a sanad to Marremdor Syiem, who was previously selected by the Dorbar Hima.
Jyrwa also rejected claims of political interference, asserting that political activity has no place in the Hima’s administration. He added that his primary responsibility is to manage the Hima’s affairs temporarily until a full-fledged Syiem is appointed.
