Review meetings held on preparedness for Assam Assembly elections

GUWAHATI, Feb 9: In view of the upcoming general election to the Assam Legislative Assembly, detailed review meetings on poll preparedness were held over two days from Sunday.

The meetings were conducted under the leadership of senior officers from the Election Commission of India, reflecting the Commission’s continued focus on ensuring peaceful elections as mandated by law.

The visiting officials from the Election Commission of India included Maneesh Garg, Senior Deputy Election Commissioner; Pawan Kumar Sharma, Senior Deputy Election Commissioner; Bhanu Prakash Yeturu, Deputy Election Commissioner; Sanjay Kumar, Deputy Election Commissioner and Bidyarani Konthoujam, Director (Model Code of Conduct).

Other senior officers and officials of the Election Commission of India were also present during the review meetings.

The first day of the review meetings was devoted to assessing district-level preparedness.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, along with senior officers including SNPO, IGP/DIGs, District Election Officers (DEOS), Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs).

Key aspects relating to election management, administrative coordination, vulnerability assessment, and security arrangements were reviewed in detail.

The second day focussed on coordination with enforcement agencies. The meeting was attended by representatives of enforcement agencies, along with the Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, State Police Nodal Officer and the State Force Coordinator.

Discussions centred on enforcement preparedness, inter-agency coordination, effective implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, and measures to ensure strict compliance with electoral laws.

The two-day review enabled a comprehensive assessment of poll preparedness at both administrative and enforcement levels.

Emphasis was laid on seamless coordination among stakeholders, effective deployment of resources, and adherence to statutory and procedural frameworks to ensure the smooth conduct of elections across Assam.
