ICC Men’s T20 World Cup
Colombo, Feb 10: Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup campaign has suffered a major setback with all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga being ruled out of the remainder of the tournament after sustaining a hamstring injury.
Hasaranga picked up the injury during Sri Lanka’s opening group match against Ireland in Colombo on Sunday.
Despite completing his four-over spell — returning impressive figures of 3 for 25 to halt Ireland’s chase of 164 — the leg-spinner underwent an MRI scan on Monday, which revealed a significant tear in his left hamstring.
The scan was subsequently reviewed by a specialist in the United Kingdom before the decision was taken to rule him out.
The injury is believed to be linked to Hasaranga’s past hamstring issues, though it has not been classified as a direct recurrence. The 26-year-old has endured a series of injury concerns in recent years, including a prolonged foot problem. (Agencies)
