TURA, Feb 10: The Tura Hindu Samshan Bhoomi Committee (THSBC) organised the formal dedication ceremony of its newly acquired Mortuary Van Service on Tuesday at the Parade Ground, Tura.
The event was attended by Meghalaya Speaker Thomas A Sangma as the chief guest.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the community, introducing a specialised vehicle equipped with a refrigerated body box to ensure a dignified final journey for the deceased.
Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Thomas Sangma expressed his immense happiness and satisfaction that a refrigerated mortuary van is now in place for the public. Highlighting the importance of such a facility in the region, he commended the committee’s proactive efforts. In a notable gesture of continued support, the Speaker also offered to personally bear the monthly remuneration of the van driver, ensuring the smooth operation of the service.
