Assam Rifles to host 4th Sentinels Cup in city

Shillong, Feb 13: The fourth edition of the Assam Rifles Sentinels Cup will be held in Shillong from February 17 to 27, 2026, with matches scheduled across multiple venues in the city.
Over the years, the tournament has evolved into a significant footballing event in the North East, providing a platform to showcase emerging talent while promoting unity and sportsmanship. Named after the Assam Rifles’ moniker, the “Sentinels of the North East,” the competition has consistently drawn enthusiastic participation from teams across the region.This year’s edition will mark a notable expansion, as the tournament will feature both men’s and women’s categories. Eight teams in each section — including clubs from Meghalaya along with sides representing the Assam Rifles, Indian Army and Meghalaya Police — will compete in group-stage matches followed by knockout rounds.The tournament will kick off on February 17 at the SSA 1 Ground, Polo, with the finals for both categories slated for February 27 at the same venue. The winning teams will receive a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh along with the Sentinels Cup trophy. Entry for spectators will be free.Beyond competition, the Sentinels Cup continues to serve a broader objective — encouraging youth participation in sports.
