ECI team arrives in Guwahati to review poll preparations

GUWAHATI, Feb 16: A delegation of the Election Commission of India (ECI), led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, arrived here on Monday for a three-day visit in view of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.

The ECI delegation will attend various programmes and meetings regarding the upcoming elections in the state during the visit.

On Tuesday, the ECI officials will hold talks with representatives of political parties at Radisson Blu Hotel in the city. Representatives of recognised national level political parties and state level political parties will participate in the discussion.

The poll commission will attend a review meeting where district election officers, magistrates and superintendents of police are scheduled to brief the panel on election-related arrangements and ground-level readiness in the state.

It will also hold talks with the chief secretary, DGP, nodal and principal officers of enforcement agencies, chief electoral officer, besides senior officers of concerned departments at the hotel on February 18 to assess security, logistics and administrative preparations.

Earlier, the ECI delegation was welcomed by Assam chief election officer Anurag Goel at the Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on Monday afternoon.
