Jadhav, Maskar among shooters for Lakshya Cup
NAVI MUMBAI, Feb 18: Top ranked Indian air rifle shooters including Kiran Jadhav and Sonam Maskar will participate in the 16th edition of the Lakshya Cup to be held here on February 21 and 22.The other confirmed shooters in the event are reigning National Games champion and junior world champion Parth Mane, former national champion Rajshree Sancheti and Ojasvi Thakur, the gold medallist in Asian Championships.The tournament, conceptualised by former Olympian Suma Shirur, will be held at the Lakshya Shooting Club, a Khelo India accredited academy.“High performance is built through structure, discipline and exposure to competitive pressure. This platform challenges athletes to perform with composure and consistency at the highest level,” Suma said.The winner in the seniors category will be awarded with a prize of Rs 1.5 lakh while the juniors category winner will get Rs 75,000. 12-member team to compete at Asian Cross-Country C’ships
NEW DELHI, Feb 18: Army’s Harmanjot Singh will be among a 12-member Indian team that will compete in the 18th Asian Cross-Country Championships from February 21 in Fukuoka, Japan.The Indian team will leave for Japan on Wednesday, said Athletics Federation of India (AFI) president Bahadur Singh Sagoo.The AFI selected the national team based on the athletes’ performance during the 60th National Cross-Country Championships held last month in Ranchi, Jharkhand.The Indian athletes will compete in the senior men’s, women’s, and U20 groups.Harmanjot will compete in the men’s 10km.Aditya Gurjar, Abhinandan Suryavanshi and Karan Ramesh Saranade will represent India in the men’s U20 category.The distance for the men’s U20 event is 8km.The members of the women’s 10km team are Nandani Gupta, Ujala, Soniya and Munni Devi.Versha, Mani Yadav, Sonam Kumari and Aarju will compete in the women’s U20 group.Indian Team: Men: 10km: Harmanjot Singh. DLTA felicitates Davis Cup team for its win over the Dutch
NEW DELHI, Feb 18: The Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) has felicitated the Indian Davis Cup team for its outstanding win over the Netherlands in the Davis Cup on the sidelines of the ongoing Delhi Open.India, ranked 33rd at the time, upset the sixth-ranked Dutch team 3-2 in a thrilling tie in Bengaluru earlier this month to advance to the second round of the Qualifiers in September.During the felicitation on Tuesday night, DLTA President Rohit Rajpal said, “At DLTA, we remain committed to supporting and strengthening Indian tennis at every level. Celebrating our Davis Cup team is part of that larger vision.” Sumit Nagal, who is through to the second round of the Delhi Open, reflected on the win while speaking to the media during the ceremony.“Everyone did a fantastic job. You go out there, you win your match, it gets easier and easier. In Switzerland, I got two points and this Bangalore tie, Yuki Bhambri and Dhakshineswar Suresh got all the points. At the end of the day, Davis Cup is about the team and like I said, everybody performed.” Nagal also spoke highly of his teammate Dhakshineswar Suresh, who won both his singles matches against the Netherlands.“I met him in 2016, so I know him for a decade. I have always supported him in any way, whatever way I could. DK is also a very nice guy, very calm, smart on the court. I really believe he can do well and I really wish him the best. Whenever he thinks something is missing or wants an advice, he’s very quick to ask. Even in the Davis Cup match, I tell him what I feel like.” Speaking about India’s next tie against Korea in September, Nagal said it will not be easy.“You are playing a top 16 match, you can’t really get an easy match now.
