Guwahati, Feb 21: The Department of Physics at The Assam Royal Global
University (RGU) has taken a significant initiative to launch a Creative Talk Series featuring
Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury, Chair, Dr Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Creativity, as the
distinguished orator. The first talk of the series was delivered on Friday on the topic “The Wonders of the Quantum World”.
About 130 students from various colleges across Guwahati, including B. Borooah College,
Pragjyotish College, Handique Girls’ College, and Arya Vidyapeeth College attended the
programme, apart from other participants at RGU campus.
Prof. Choudhury delivered an insightful and engaging exposition on the foundational and
theoretical aspects of Quantum Theory and Quantum Mechanics. Explaining complex ideas
in simple and accessible language, he traced the historical development of quantum
mechanics from its emergence nearly a century ago to its present-day technological
implications.
He elaborated on the revolutionary ideas that challenged classical intuition and demonstrated how quantum principles now underpin modern advancements in electronics, communication, computation, and materials science. His lucid explanation helped students
appreciate both the conceptual beauty and practical significance of quantum mechanics.
Prof. Aniruddha Chatterjee, Dean, Royal School of Applied and Pure Sciences has stated that the central aim of this initiative is to ignite curiosity, promote creative thinking, and cultivate deeper intellectual engagement among students beyond the boundaries of their prescribed
curriculum.
“The large turnout reflected the growing interest among students in understanding the fascinating and often non-intuitive principles of the quantum world”, he added.
The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, where students
actively engaged with the speaker, raising thoughtful questions and seeking clarifications.
