Eric Dane passes away following ALS battle at 53

Actor Eric Dane, renowned for his roles as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy and Cal Jacobs on Euphoria, passed away at 53 on February 19, after a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), diagnosed in 2025. His family said he spent his final days surrounded by his wife and daughters, Billie and Georgia, and became an advocate for ALS awareness and research, working with I Am ALS on legislation and fundraising.
Born in San Francisco in 1972, Dane began his career with small TV roles in Saved by the Bell, The Wonder Years, and Roseanne, before recurring on Gideon’s Crossing and Charmed. He appeared in films including The Basket, X-Men: The Last Stand, Marley & Me, Valentine’s Day, and Open Water 2.
Joining Grey’s Anatomy in 2005, he became a series regular until Season 8, returning for guest appearances, including Season 17. Dane later starred in TNT’s The Last Ship and portrayed Cal Jacobs on Euphoria, reprising the role in Season 3. His final works included Borderline, Into the Beautiful, Family Secrets, Wireless, Countdown, and Kabul. (ANI)
