Vipul Amrutlal Shah on industry fallout from The Kerala Story

Filmmaker Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the director behind The Kerala Story and The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, has addressed whether his films have affected his relationships within Bollywood, an industry known for interfaith marriages.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Shah clarified that his movies are not directed against any religion or community but are intended to expose crimes in which girls are trapped into marriages with malicious intent.
He emphasized that interfaith marriages within the film industry or wider society are not relevant to his films’ narratives.
The focus of his work is on cases where girls’ lives are manipulated for wrongful purposes.
Shah highlighted that the films document real-life incidents, including “rate cards” that assign monetary values to girls based on caste or religion, showing the exploitative practices they aim to condemn.
Shah further noted that his colleagues in the entertainment industry are aware of the films’ intent and understand that the movies aim to shed light on criminal acts rather than comment on interfaith marriages or personal choices.
He reassured that the content of the films has not created any friction or affected friendships within Bollywood.
By focusing on criminal exploitation rather than religion, Shah maintains that his professional and personal relationships in the industry remain intact, reflecting the sensitivity and understanding of his peers. (Agencies)
