Tura, Feb 24: The ASPF on Tuesday urged political parties to immediately cancel party tickets allotted to non tribals to contest the upcoming GHADC polls.

The organization made the request in a letter addressed jointly to Chief Minister and NPP National President Conrad Sangma, MPCC President Vincent Pala and MPTCC President Charles Pyngrope.

We, the undersigned representatives of the A·chik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF), are reaching out on behalf of the Garo community in Garo Hills, to express our concerns regarding the recent announcement concerning the allotment of party tickets to non-Garo candidates for the upcoming GDC elections.

“The Garo Hills is home to the Garo people, and the majority are strongly opposed to the candidacy of non-Garo individuals in the forthcoming GDC elections. In light of this, we kindly request that you review this decision. We believe that revoking the candidacies of non-Garo candidates would be in the best interest of the Garo community and would better reflect their aspirations,” it said, in its letter.

It may be recalled that non-tribals were allotted party tickets to contest the 14-Betasing seat by all three of the said prominent political parties. While the NPP gave the party ticket to Sanjay Koch, the INC and the TMC allotted tickets to Ajitav Koch and Hemandra Hajong respectively.
