Two held for ‘attack’ on BJP MLA in UP
MUZAFFARNAGAR, Feb 23: Two men have been arrested over an alleged attack on BJP MLA Rajiv Tarara in UP’s Amroha district.Three police personnel, including a senior sub-inspector, have been suspended in connection with the incident, they added.The BJP MLA from Dhanaura was travelling from Mandi Dhanaura towards Amroha to attend a wedding when the incident occurred near a railway crossing on Sunday night.A speeding motorcycle hit the MLA’s car from behind.When Tarara’s security guard questioned the riders, they allegedly began hurling stones at the vehicle. Police said the accused allegedly abused and manhandled the MLA’s security guard and driver, and even issued threats.Tarara had informed the local police station immediately, but a team reached the spot after about 30 minutes.Two accused were apprehended at the scene, while the others fled.An FIR has been registered and two accused have been arrested.Taking serious note of the incident, the superintendent of police (SP) has suspended three police officials for alleged negligence. Five killed, 14 injured as double-decker bus overturns
LUCKNOW, Feb 23: Five people were killed and at least 14 injured when a double-decker bus overturned here on Monday evening after the driver lost control of the vehicle, police said.According to officials, 80-85 passengers were onboard the bus, which was going from Ludhiana in Punjab to Motihari in Bihar, when the accident took place. Five people — one man, one woman and three children — died. Police have sent the injured persons to trauma centres , where their condition is said to be stable.A case has been registered in this connection. (PTI)
Woman loses arm as she falls while boarding train
THANE, Feb 23: A 28-year-old woman lost her arm after she slipped and fell while boarding an express train at Thane station in the wee hours of Monday, police said.The incident occurred when Seema Shabbir Sheikh (28), was trying to board the Mahanagari Express after it arrived at around 1 AM.She fell beneath coaches S-5 and S-6 of the train. Police personnel and porters rushed to the spot after an announcement was made about the accident.Sheikh was pulled out from under the train, and it was found that her right arm had been severed from the shoulder. She also suffered a grievous injury to her right leg. (PTI)
