Group wants action against illegal collections

Tura, Feb 27: The NGCO has urged concerned authorities to take necessary steps to stop all kinds of illegal collections in Garo HIlls, be it by government departments, local groups or organizations.

The demand by the organizations comes after a video of one such alleged attempt at illegal collection from a vehicle, went viral in the social media. In the video, the occupant of the said vehicle is seen questioning the alleged illegal act.

“We urge the concerned authorities to immediately inquire into the matter and ensure that no innocent citizen is exploited. The rule of law, transparency, and accountability must prevail in every outpost area of Garo Hills,” it said, in a release.
