Guwahati, March 2: In a solemn and inspiring ceremony held today at The Assam Royal Global University (RGU), Harmeet Singh, IPS, Director General of Police, Assam, unveiled the bust of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel — the “Iron Man of India” on the occasion of the two-year national celebration of Sardar Patel’s 150th birth anniversary.

The DGP also planted a sapling on the university campus, symbolising growth, resilience, and commitment to nation-building, and later addressed and interacted with the students at the university.

In his welcome address, Dr. A. K. Pansari, Chancellor, RGU, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Shri Harmeet Singh for gracing the event. Offering his tribute to Sardar Patel, he said, “Status and busts on a campus are not decorative structures, they are silent teachers. They remind students that leadership requires courage, that Nation building requires discipline, and that history is shaped by those who dare to act decisively.”

The installation at RGU signifies that beyond academic excellence we value character, service and national responsibility, he added.

Unveiling the bust, Harmeet Singh highlighted the pivotal role played by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in the integration of nearly 560 princely states and colonial provinces, thereby laying the foundation of modern India. He described Sardar Patel as a visionary leader whose determination, courage, and administrative acumen shaped the unity and strength of the nation.

Addressing the gathering, the Assam DGP reflected on Sardar Patel’s exemplary leadership, unwavering commitment to national unity, and his enduring relevance in contemporary India. He urged students to draw inspiration from Patel’s life and ideals, emphasizing discipline, perseverance, patriotism, and ethical leadership as key virtues for personal and professional success.

The programme concluded with an enthusiastic and highly interactive session, during which Shri Harmeet Singh engaged directly with the students of Royal Global University. In a vibrant question-and-answer segment, the DGP shared valuable insights on leadership, public service, career guidance, and nation-building, leaving the students motivated and inspired.
