SHILLONG, March 1: Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Bakur unit, has petitioned the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) of West Jaintia Hills, seeking immediate intervention to address the shortage of doctors at the Dawki Primary Health Centre (PHC) under the Amlarem Sub-Division.
The petition was submitted after members of the KSU, Bakur unit, conducted an inspection only to find that the PHC at Dawki had been functioning without any doctors for the past two weeks.
In a letter addressed to the DMHO, KSU Bakur unit general secretary, Kelvinel Khonglah, said that the absence of doctors followed the transfer of the previous incumbents to other health facilities. He noted that discussions with the relevant authorities indicated new postings were expected, but the orders had yet to be issued.
The KSU expressed concern that despite assurances, over a month had passed without progress, causing severe inconvenience to patients in the region.
Informing that the residents face significant hardship due to the lack of medical professionals at the PHC, Khonglah urged the Health department to expedite the posting of doctors to restore essential healthcare services at the earliest.
