SHILLONG/TURA, March 1: The North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR) recently celebrated National Science Day 2026 at its NECTAR STEM Lab at Barik Point, Shillong, with great enthusiasm and participation from students, educators and officials.
Celebrated annually to promote a scientific temper and innovation, this year’s theme, ‘Women in Science – Catalysing Viksit Bharat’, highlighted the vital contribution of women to scientific advancement and nation-building.
In alignment with the national theme, NECTAR, in collaboration with the Smart Village Movement, Meghalaya, organised a student-level science competition and exhibition, which showcased innovative and practical scientific models across various sectors, contributing to the broader vision of a Viksit Bharat.
The programme was attended by East Khasi Hills Assistant Commissioner Tolino Chishi as the chief guest, alongside officials from NECTAR and partner organisations.
The event began with the inauguration of the exhibition, followed by an interaction between dignitaries and young innovators.
The invited guests addressed the gathering and encouraged students to pursue scientific thinking and highlighting the importance of women’s participation in science and innovation for national development.
Prizes were awarded to the winners based on innovation, relevance, scientific understanding and presentation.
Celebration in Tura
National Science Day 2026 was also celebrated recently at the Tura Science Centre, Tura, with great enthusiasm during a programme organised by members of the Meghalaya Science Society, Tura.
Students from various secondary schools took part in the day-long festival of science and technology. They attended lectures, presentations and demonstrations on the theme, ‘Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat’.
The inaugural session was attended by West Garo Hills District Planning Officer Florina Boro as the chief guest, in the presence of guest of honour principal of Don Bosco College, Tura, Fr. Januarius S. Sangma.
Speaking on the occasion, Boro encouraged the students to take up challenges in science, mathematics and technology. Sangma, on the other hand, advised the students to study hard and strive for success in life.
