Pop star Britney Spears, 44, was arrested near her Southern California home on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Authorities said she was driving erratically on US 101 in Newbury Park, pulled over safely, and underwent field sobriety tests before being taken to Ventura County jail. She was booked early Thursday and released at 6 am, with chemical test results pending and charges yet to be determined.
Spears’ representative called the incident “completely inexcusable” and said she intends to comply with the law and seek support.
Spears, a teen pop sensation from Mississippi and Louisiana, rose to fame with hits like …Baby One More Time and Oops! … I Did It Again, and became the focus of intense media scrutiny.
Her 2008–2021 conservatorship and later #FreeBritney movement highlighted her personal struggles. She released her memoir, The Woman in Me, in 2023. A court date is set for May 4. (PTI)
