NEW DELHI, March 9: Delhi Police on Monday apprehended four juveniles in connection with the physical assault of a woman from Manipur and her friend near the Saket District Complex. A criminal case has been registered under relevant sections, including the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The woman and her transgender friend from Assam were allegedly harassed and assaulted near the court complex on Sunday evening. The woman sustained minor injuries and was treated at Safdarjung Hospital, where she is currently in stable condition.
According to police, the victims were walking in a park when a group of youths passed lewd and racially derogatory remarks. When the woman objected to the harassment, the group physically attacked them, reportedly using punches and belts. Multiple police teams have been deployed to trace other suspects using CCTV footage.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Tura MP Saleng Sangma condemned the attack and demanded exemplary action. Describing the incident as “sickening,” the chief minister urged authorities to take stringent measures against “racial bullying.”
