Man gets 5 yrs in jail in 1998 homicide case

JOWAI, March 13: The Court of Sessions Judge, West Jaintia Hills, Noor-Ain Khan, has convicted Deling Talang for a homicide committed nearly 28 years ago.
Talang, a resident of Shain Shilliang Myntang village, was found guilty under Section 304 Part II of the IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). The court sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional month of simple imprisonment.
The case originated from an FIR filed on December 19, 1998, by Gedrik Sten. According to the complaint, his son, Bniahbha Pala, was returning from work at a charcoal site in Barato village on December 18, 1998, when the accused invited him to his house at Laser and stabbed him.
The case was investigated by SI PS Khongtip and originally registered under Section 302 IPC (murder). Following the conclusion of the trial, the court convicted Talang under the lesser charge of Section 304 Part II.
