NONGPOH, March 14: The Brup Hanglang Tourism Promoting Society on Friday concluded a four-day training programme on basic tour guiding at the Ri Bhoi Sepngi Presbytery Vocational Training Centre in Sohbhala Nongthymai.
The programme, which began on March 10, saw participation from local youths and college students across the district. The initiative aimed to equip participants with the professional skills required to promote sustainable tourism and serve as guides within Ri-Bhoi.
Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, who also serves as the chairman of the District Tourism Promotion Society, attended the valedictory session as the chief guest. Other officials who attended the programme included District Tourism Officer Banshynsharlang Nongkynrih, Dr. Sabrina Lyngdoh of IITTM Shillong and Daminot Sylliang, president of the Brup Hanglang Tourism Promoting Society.
During the session, speakers highlighted the importance of developing a pool of skilled local guides to showcase the district’s tourism potential and create livelihood opportunities for the youths.
