MAWKYRWAT, March 16: A total number of about 290 houses sustained damages, affecting over a thousand people, following a hailstorm accompanied by heavy rainfall and strong winds that hit several villages under Ranikor Civil Sub-Division in South West Khasi Hills District on Sunday morning. No casualty was reported in any of the villages in the district.
Official sources on Monday informed that Nongkulang was the most severely affected village with 118 houses being destroyed by the hailstorm, followed by Gilagora village with 37 houses, Koraibari (34 houses), Weikut (20 houses), Majisora (19 houses), Maheshkhola (15 houses), Thadteja (12 houses), Pormawdar (11 houses), Upper Gilagora (seven houses), Umtyngkut, Thupumiap and Noasona (four each), 25 Mile (three houses), and New Moilam and Kampilgre (one house each).
Officials further said the hailstorm destroyed houses in several others villages, the extent of which is being ascertained.
