Govt tells airlines to allocate 60 pc seats free of cost

New Delhi, March 18: In a bid to further enhance ease of air travel, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said on Wednesday that minimum 60 per cent of seats on any flight must be allocated free of charge to ensure fair access. In fresh directions issued through the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to further strengthen passenger convenience, transparency and uniformity of practices across airlines, the ministry said that passengers travelling on the same PNR should be seated together on a flight — preferably in adjacent seats. “Carriage of sports equipment and musical instruments to be facilitated in a transparent and passenger-friendly manner, subject to applicable safety and operational regulations. Airlines shall also bring out clear, transparent policies for carriage of pets,” it said. (IANS)

3 friends killed after road trip turns tragic

KOTA, March 18: A road trip to Ladakh ended in tragedy for three friends from Pune, as the car they were travelling in veered off the road and collided against the divider before plunging from a flyover on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway stretch here on Wednesday, killing all three on the spot. The deceased — Sidhant Allat (21), Kunal Chordiya (25) and Mayurewa Padle (23), all residents of Pune city — were returning from their trip to Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir with seven other friends, when the accident took place. During the return journey on Wednesday morning, while two other car halted at a rest stop along the expressway, the one carrying the deceased did not, rushing along the homebound trail. Officials said the driver apparently dosed off at the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and crash into the divider, before taking a plunge from the flyover. The car was blown to pieces upon impact and the three onboard sustained fatal injuries. Rushed to a local hospital, they were declared brought dead. (PTI)
