SHILLONG, March 26: Global comedy icon Russell Peters is set to perform in Shillong on Friday, marking Northeast India’s first major international stand-up comedy show. Tickets for the event are completely sold out.
The performance will take place at the Lariti International Centre for Performing Arts and Culture at 6 pm. Organisers have advised the audience to arrive by 5 pm to explore the venue’s stalls and refreshments.
Peters, who is currently on his India tour, chose Shillong as his only stop in the Northeast. Having already arrived in the city, the comedian expressed appreciation for the local atmosphere, stating he was enjoying the energy and “vibe” of the place.
Jason Manners of Rockski described the public response as “phenomenal”, noting that this is the first time the region is hosting a global stand-up figure of this stature.
He added that the turnout reflects Shillong’s growing reputation as a destination for world-class entertainment.
Director of Tourism Brenda Pakyntein said the sold-out show reflects a growing demand for global live experiences and aligns with efforts to position Meghalaya as a hub for cultural tourism.
Shillong’s reputation as India’s “Music Hub” has steadily grown over the past decade, with the city hosting major international acts and festivals such as the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival.
The comedy show follows closely on the heels of a major rock concert held earlier this week, contributing to a vibrant weekend of events and reinforcing the city’s appeal as a cultural destination.
