Rape attempt in Kanpur college classroom; 3 nabbed

KANPUR, March 31: A 21-year-old Bachelor in Medical Lab Technology (BMLT) student has accused three of her college mates of trying to rape her a fortnight ago on campus, police said on Tuesday.According to a complaint lodged on Monday, the incident took place on March 16 in a classroom of the Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University.The second-year student alleged that the three called her to an empty classroom on the pretext of sharing a meal. Once inside, they allegedly tried to rape her.Her cries drew the attention of some senior students who came to her rescue, she said.A case was filed on Monday. The police identified the three men as Vaibhav Mishra, Anuj Vishwakarma, and Ritesh Nirmal and detained all three. (PTI)

Bagdogra-Delhi flight makes emergency landing

LUCKNOW, March 31: A Delhi-bound Air India Express flight from Bagdogra (Siliguri) made an emergency landing at the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport here after a smoke alarm, sources said on Tuesday.The flight (IX1523), operated by an Airbus A320 aircraft, was diverted to Lucknow Monday evening after the pilot issued a “Mayday” call – an internationally recognised distress signal used in life-threatening emergencies – after the crew detected smoke in the avionics. Air Traffic Control (ATC) in Lucknow was alerted about the diversion, and the aircraft landed safely at around 5.18 pm.A total of 148 people, including six crew members, were on board the flight.All passengers were safely evacuated after landing. The aircraft remains parked at the Lucknow airport. Passengers were accommodated on alternate flights. (PTI)
