Indian shooters fail to reach finals in both men’s and women’s events

TANGIER (Morocco), April 1: Indian trap shooters failed to reach the finals in both the men’s and women’s events after two days of qualification rounds at the inaugural ISSF Shotgun World Cup here on Wednesday.
Kynan Chenai was the highest-placed Indian at 13th with 119 after five rounds in the men’s trap event while Bhowneesh Mendiratta finished at 39th with a total score of 115.
Olympian Prithviraj Tondaiman ended at 57th, while Sultan Mohammad Asad and Gyanchand Sharan Susheel finished at 64th and 73rd respectively.
Nathan Hales of Great Britain — the Paris Olympics gold medallist and former world champion — ended on top of the qualification round with 123. Only eight shooters qualify for the final round.On Tuesday, Bhowneesh and Kynan had enjoyed an eventful opening day, shooting with precision and consistency to put themselves in contention.Both Bhowneesh and Kynan had hit 72 targets to be in joint sixth place alongside seven others after three rounds of 25 shots each, totalling 75 clay targets.
In the women’s trap event on Wednesday, Aashima Ahlawat finished at 14th with a total score of 111, while Kirti Gupta and Olympian Rajeshwari Kumari ended at 32nd and 37th respectively.Shreshtha Sisodiya finished 41st while Preeti Rajak was 42nd. (PTI)
