BEIJING, April 9: China’s Defence Ministry on Thursday denied claims that Chinese firms supplied satellite imagery or semiconductor chip manufacturing equipment to Iran’s military amid the ongoing US-Israeli conflict. Spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang called such reports “speculative and insinuating disinformation” and stressed that China opposes attempts to target it with false narratives.
Zhang addressed reports that Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) provided chip-making equipment to Iran and that a Chinese commercial satellite company released images of US military bases in the Middle East. He rejected US officials’ assertions about China and Russia supporting Iran, calling them baseless.
“China’s position on the Iran issue is above-board and straightforward,” Zhang said, emphasizing that the country maintains an impartial stance and has consistently promoted peace talks, “never adding fuel to the fire.” He also questioned the credibility of nations claiming neutrality while allegedly escalating conflicts, asserting that the international community can clearly distinguish between those promoting peace and those fueling wars.
The statement underscores China’s commitment to diplomacy and its denial of military involvement with Iran. (PTI)
